Step-by-Step Guide

Observations are an excellent tool for tracking key moments in a child's early years journey. On Arc Pathway, it's easy to add observations for individual children, groups, or even entire classes. Here's a step-by-step guide on how to do it.

Adding Observations via the Teacher Dashboard

Step 1: Navigate to the "My Observation" Tab

Locate and click on the "My Observation" tab.

Step 2: Create a New Observation

Click the "Add Observation" button.

The "Add Observation" dialogue will appear.

Step 3: Select Children

On this screen, you can select one or multiple children for the observation.

To add an observation for a whole class, enter the class name in the search bar and click on it. All the children in that class will automatically populate the field.

If you wish to exclude any children (e.g., if a child is away), simply remove their name from the list.

Step 4: Add Media

Click the "Add File" button to attach up to three images or videos.

Step 5: Check Date and Time

Confirm the date and time associated with the observation.

Step 6: Assign Arc and Strand

Choose a specific Arc and a strand within that Arc to which you want to assign the observation.

Step 7: Assign Characteristics of Effective Learning

If applicable, you can also assign the observation to a particular "Characteristic of Effective Learning."

Step 8: Finalise and Save

Sign the observation with your name.

Click "Save Observation."

Step 9: Add to Learning Journal

You'll be prompted to add the entry to the learning journal, which parents have access to. Click "Yes" if you want parents to view the observation.

Step 10: Manager Approval (If Applicable)

If manager approvals are enabled in your organisation, a manager will need to approve the observation before it's added to the learning journal.

You can view pending approvals by going to the menu and selecting "My Approvals."

Adding Observations via the Arc Pathway Mobile App

Step 1: Select a Child

Tap on a child's name.

Step 2: Go to Observations

Tap on "Observations."

Step 3: Create New Observation

Tap "New Observation."

Step 4: Enter Observation Details

Follow the same steps as above for selecting children, adding media, and assigning Arcs, strands, and characteristics.

The child's profile you have initially selected will be added by default.

Step 5: Add to Learning Journal

If you want parents to see this observation, make sure to select the "Add to Learning Journal" box.

And there you have it! You've successfully added an observation on Arc Pathway. Whether you're using the teacher dashboard or the mobile app, the process is straightforward and user-friendly.
