For parents, what does ALG and ALG+ mean on Arc Pathway?

At Arc Pathway, we use Arc Learning Goals (ALGs) and Arc Learning Goals Plus (ALG+) to support children’s learning and development. These are different from the Early Learning Goals (ELGs) in the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS).

The 17 Early Learning Goals (ELG) are the goals children are expected to reach by the end of Reception and are used as a final assessment before a child moves into Year 1.

In contrast, Arc Learning Goals (ALG) are broad learning goals that help teachers understand a child’s development across different areas. They are not one-off milestones. Instead, they give a fuller picture of how a child is developing and learning at that point.

Arc Learning Goals Plus (ALG+) are when a child is showing signs of going beyond what is typically expected for their age in a particular area of development.
